Best answer:

The end of the Viking period is usually dated with the fall of King Harald the Ruthless, who died in the battle of the Stamford Bridge in 1066 when he tried to take possession of the territory of England; although Danish historians extended until 1085 with the end of reign of Canuto IV of Denmark. It is said that the strong climate and religious changes due to its expansion simply led to the end of its era.
