Best answer:

Different shapes of Moon is caused by changes in the relative positions of the Earth, Sun, and Moon. The light we see on or from the Moon is actually a reflection of light from the Sun. Unlike Sun, Moon has no light of its own and it looks bright because it reflects sunlight to us.When the Moon and the Sun are on opposite sides of the Earth, we perceive the moon as full. However, when the sun and the moon are on the same side of the Earth the lit side is hidden from us, we say the moon is "new".
